How to install brush hog on ford 8n

Also the bucket when full tends to drop, so the hydraulics may need work. Any advise? Thanks, Phil dave c I have a 9n with a 6 foot brush hog on it it wouldnt hardly run it until i ported and polished the intake and exhaust ports and a 3 angle valve job does fine now Dave Stouwie I have a 5 ft on my 9N that does a good job without porting or polishing. The tractor is stock and I brush hog approx 8 acres of tall weeds and small blackjack trees.

Make sure you have a clutch pto or it will push you when you want to stop. Michael I have a 6 ft on mine, but mine is a 52 funk conversion, meaning it has a six cylinder in it,more power than stock, but I have friends and a brother-in-law that have regular 8N tractors and they have no problem pulling and cutting with a 6 ft mower. You will have to have a good hydralic system, and they do make the front ends light. You may have to uses your brakes more to turn sharp!

Hope this helped!!! I don't know if this will help or not. Nov 4, 6. Nov 4, 7. Nov 8, Thread Starter 8. Here is a picture of my tractor. Does it look like I have all the needed links?? Notice there is a place to at a link near the back right wheel, but not on the left?? JPG Nov 8, 9. Would be nice to have, but you can just use the limiter chains you have in the middle there as is.

You will remove the 3pt drawbar on the lower 2 arms, and hook up the brush hog there. Then on top behind the seat goes the top link. If not, you will need to get one. That is important, or you will run into something without it. You likely will need to shorten the pto shaft to make it fit.

As you raise the 3pt, the shaft will compress, and if it bottoms out it will wreck something. You will need to pull the pto shaft apart, and cut a littl eof each end, plus a little off each shield. Then slip it back together.

Nov 9, Let's try this to see if we can help clear things up. In the picture, remove A, B, C, and D. Now, A and or B can be reconnected as shown by arrow A1. Arrow 1 is where the PTO shaft and overrunning clutch get connected. Arrow 2 is where the adjustable toplink would be connected.

Jun 8, 6. JerryG Super Member. They are used primarily on older tractors where the three point leaks down or on tractors that don't have position control. Jun 8, 7. HammerFour Gold Member. If your 3ph doesn't droop over time, you don't need the check chains.

I guess you could use them to make sure you dropped the cutter to the same height every time if you don't have position control. For the original poster, if the sides of the cutter are digging in when you are mowing, I would say you are running it a bit to low.

You might post a picture so we can see if we can offer any hints on setting the rear wheel height. Some mowers have collars that you move above or below the wheel pivot point to raise or lower the cutting height. My finish mower and a rotary cutter we used to have were that way.

Jun 8, 8. I have similiar chains on my tractor. No problems on the housing on my old IH supporting it since Jun 8, 9. Soundguy Old Timer. These check chains are common. TSC sells them.. In fact, the 9n and 2n ford had draft hyds only..
